Five precepts

Abstain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, false speech, and intoxicants that cause heedlessness.

  1. Do not intentionally kill living beings.
  2. Do not take what is not given.
  3. Do not engage in sexual misconduct.
  4. Do not speak falsely.
  5. Do not use intoxicants that cause heedlessness.

The precepts are voluntary training rules that establish harmlessness and restraint.
